A student was using headphones with a Chromebook computer. Every time he clicked the APP icon the volume zeroed out. Here's what I did to solve the problem.

I had the student shut down Chromebook completely.

Plug the headset into the audio jack.

Restart Chromebook

Now Chromebook will rescan for audio devices and that solved the problem.

Enjoy your computer (Chromebook).

Rick

How to Delete History and Bookmarks in One Linked Google Chrome Internet Browser #FreeComputerTips written by in home computer, tablet and smart cell phone tutor, mobile virus removal and repair specialist, dual certified teacher J. One of the cool things about Google Chrome is the ability to sync history, passwords and bookmarks across computers and even computer operating systems by using your Google account. If you log into your Google account at your at the library, you don't necessarily want others to see your bookmarks and history or in the case of a teacher using a computer in which students have access.

Steps to Delete Bookmarks and History in JUST One Computer

Sign out of your Google account. You'd think that would do it right? Nope.

Click the three or four dots in the upper right hand corner which everyone, including my beginner in home computer tutoring clients here in Honolulu Hawaii are automatically supposed to know that means menu.

Click Settings

DO NOT delete your history yet. That will delete your history on ALL your synced computers. I personally like my history it puts less clicks in my life.

Click disconnect your Google account

Now click History or in some operating systems click the three or four dot menu again and go to history. You may find this link helpful http://chrome://history/ (link may not work)

Delete your history.  There's a pull down menu in which you may select "Since the beginning of time" which will delete all the history

Click on the menu again and select Bookmarks then Bookmarks manager. You may find this link helpful http://chrome://bookmarks/  (link may not work)You may single left click on one bookmark, then using a previously learned shortcut, press CTRL a on your keyboard to select all. Your delete key on your keyboard will then do the rest.

You're Done!

I personally like my history and bookmarks. Makes my life easier and I can get to my virtual destination faster and more efficiently. When you're on a computer others may access however, it becomes a privacy or even a security issue.

Enjoy your computer.
Your friendly neighborhood computer geek and in home tutor,
Rick

I have an old Windows 7 netbook computer which was very slow running Windows 7. I finally installed a very fast, efficient and secure operating system called LUnbuntu. I love the speed it gives me from my old computer. I've even installed it alongside Windows as a dual boot for my in home and onsite computer clients here in Honolulu Hawaii and all of Oahu who MUST keep their computers running regardless of the computer virus on their Windows operating system.

Recently I ran across a problem with a 256 gigabyte flash drive (thumb drive) using the exfat operating system on the flash drive.

How to Mount and Use an exFAT Drive on Linux Including LUbuntu

The exFAT file system is ideal for flash drives and SD cards. It’s like FAT32, but without the 4 GB file size limit. You can use exFAT drives on Linux with full read-write support, but you’ll need to install a few packages first.
Try connecting an exFAT-formatted drive without installing the required software and you’ll often see “Unable to mount” error message saying “unknown file system type: ‘exfat’.”

What’s the Difference Between FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS?
We performed this process on Ubuntu 14.04, but it’ll be similar on other versions of Ubuntu and other Linux distributions.
First, open a Terminal window from your applications menu. On Ubuntu and similar Linux distributions, type the following command and press Enter to install the appropriate packages.

You’ll have to enter your password, too.
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils

On other Linux distributions, use the appropriate software-installation command or open the graphical user interface and look for the “exfat-fuse” and “exfat-utils” packages. They may be called something a bit different — search for “exfat” and you should find them if they’re available in your Linux distribution’s package repositories.

Mount exFAT Drives Automatically

After you’ve installed the appropriate software, you can just connect an exFAT drive to your computer and it will be mounted automatically. If it’s already connected, just unplug the drive and plug it back in.
Modern Linux desktop environments are smart enough to automatically mount file systems when you connect removable devices, and — once you’ve installed the required software for mounting exFAT drives — they’ll work automatically. You can use them normally without ever pulling up a terminal again, and you’ll have full read-write support.

The exfat-utils package also contains a “mkfs.exfat” command. You can use this command to format partitions with the exFAT file system from Linux, if you like. You can also just format them with exFAT from Windows, Mac, or other devices that support exFAT.

Tablets and to some degree laptops have a problem with overheating. If you want to lay your tablet on something or your laptop put it on a laptop cooling pad.

The worst thing you can do is to lay your tablet or set your laptop on a pillow.  The heat builds up and heat is the enemy of electronics. So save yourself A LOT of repair charges and wear and tear on your tablet or laptop and get a laptop cooling pad. Don't worry, it still works with a tablet.

Be sure to call or text me to have your computer, laptop or Surface tablet cleaned professionally to cut down on more wear and tear.

Nothing has changed folks everything is okay. This move to have website owners pay more money for ssl certificates is ABSOLUTELY not necessary unless they are accepting payments ON their website NOT redirecting payments to a secure site. SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization's details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. This move was started by the all powerful Google (or they seem to think they are) and some of the other internet browsers such as Firefox are picking up Google's breadcrumbs.

Sounds Good Right?

Yes, if you're purchasing something ON that website. That's why I use and have always used PayPal's or another purchasing service's websites instead of my own. Many of you who have supported my efforts by purchasing my ebook Secrets to Computer Virus Removal – How I Ticked Off My Competitors. When you purchased it you noticed you ended up at the PayPal website which does pay extra for the ssl certificate.

But Rick, To Post On Your Website I Have to Put in My Username and Password. Is That Safe?

Absolutely! You can still log into forums and WordPress sites and comment just like you have been before big brother Google decided WE ALL need to pay for ssl certificates. Carry on as usual. Nothing to see despite big brother and its followers.

Enjoy your computer as usual,
Your friendly neighborhood computer geek and tutor,
Rick
